Where does the name Garrison come from?
Contrary to popular practice, company founder Chris Griffiths decided NOT to name the company after himself. "I just thought that Griffiths was too hard to pronounce correctly and too hard to spell correctly...in this day of googling your way through the internet, I thought something more dynamic was in order", says Griffiths.
The word originated in 1250-1300 when it was formed from words that meant "to defend" and "protection" and "stronghold".*
In more recent times, it is defined as "a permanent military post".*
Continues Chris Griffiths, "The truth is, the name has always resonated with me - as far back as grade school. I used to trace out guitar shapes from my favorite magazines and I'd always put Garrison on the headstock.
Furthermore, Garrison Hill is the name of a famous old hill in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada where the factory is located. St. John's is the oldest city in North America and as such I knew it would mean something to our community.
...not to mention it is easy to pronounce; easy to spell and doesn't mean anything funny in a foreign language...some marketing basics.."

How do I install a strap button and does it void my warranty?
Installing a strap button on the heel of the neck of your acoustic guitar is a very common modification. This allows a player to avoid tying a strap around the headstock and truly is better for the instrument and the player.
However, putting a screw into a neck where there has never been a screw before is tricky business. We strongly recommend that you have this task completed by a qualified guitar repair person.
Regardless of whether you want to do it yourself or have it done professionally, print off and reference the adobe pdf file below and use it or bring it with you to the repair shop.
Technically, performing this job does not void the warranty but if cracks, splits or other issues develop around the area where the strap button was installed, you can bet the results of that won't be covered but it certainly won't impact our desire to stand behind the quality of the instrument in every other respect.

How do I determine the date of my Garrison Guitar?
Our serial number indictaes the date the guitar came out of our Final Inspection area and went into shipping. The first two digits of our serial number indicate the year the guitar was made, the second two digits indicate the month it was made, the next two digits indicate the day and the last three digits indicate the consecutive number for guitars that day.
So, the serial number 040506007 means that in 2004 (04), in May (05) on the 6th of May (06) your guitar was the 7th guitar finished that day (007).
We love keeping it simple....

We use it at all the trade shows where we exhibit our instruments, to show them at their best.
